- This thesis aims to investigate the challenges posed by updates in progressive visualizations of spatial datasets.
- Specifically, the focus is on how geospatial map views can be linked and updated during analysis, and how these updates can overwhelm users.
- The problem lies in the lack of mechanisms to prioritize or synchronize these updates in a user-friendly manner.
- The goal is to establish a foundation for solutions that optimize the progressive updating process, balancing the need for real-time feedback while minimizing the cognitive burden on users.
- Review of existing work on progressive visualization and incremental updates in spatial and geospatial data analysis.
- Analysis of how geospatial map views are currently linked and updated in progressive visualization systems.
- Identification of user challenges related to update frequency, synchronization, and cognitive overload.
- Examination of existing mechanisms for prioritizing, coordinating, or filtering updates across linked views.
- Exploration of design strategies for managing progressive updates in geospatial visualizations.
- Conceptual design or prototypical implementation of mechanisms.
