- The Senior BW / Data Expert is a senior technical specialist in the target team and plays a critical role in understanding, stabilizing, simplifying, and modernizing the existing SAP BW-based reporting and data environment.
- The role combines technical depth with solution design responsibility and acts as the main expert for legacy assessment, future-state data design, and technically sound implementation decisions.
- This role is particularly important in a context where the current landscape may contain custom-built logic, historical complexity, overlapping data layers, non-transparent routines, and insufficient documentation.
- The Senior BW / Data Expert is expected to reverse-engineer, assess, and improve the current environment while helping shape the migration path toward the future platform architecture.
- The individual will have a significant impact on the technical quality of the future platform, the realism of migration decisions, and the avoidance of technical dead ends.
- The role is therefore critical not only for development execution but also for ensuring that the transformation is practical, supportable, and economically sensible.
- Co-design a sustainable and scalable Finance Data Platform (Change).
- Assess the existing SAP BW landscape (data models, transformations, process chains, routines, queries, etc.) and pinpoint technical debt, redundancy, and performance bottlenecks.
- Lead the technical design of BW remediation, simplification, and modernisation work.
- Decide what to retain, refactor, migrate, or decommission, and shape the path toward the target architecture (SAP Datasphere / BDC).
- Design robust, well-documented data models and transformation logic, including optimization of the existing setup using best practices.
- Establish a monitoring process for data flows for accuracy and completeness.
- Design and implement data quality checks and cleansing processes.
- Oversee the data life cycle of the Finance Data Platform (Run).
- Own technical documentation of key objects, dependencies, and data lineage.
- Lead root-cause analysis for complex defects, performance issues, and reconciliation breaks, with actionable insights.
- Support the Finance team with ad-hoc data analysis and troubleshooting.
- Advise the Team Lead on feasibility, effort, dependencies, and risk for backlog items; mentor more junior team members.
- Actively apply AI and automation to improve platform standards, development principles, and coding quality.
Unsere Erwartungen an dich
Ausbildung
- University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Informatics, or a related field.
Qualifikationen
- Strong hands-on expertise in BW modelling (ADSOs, CompositeProviders, transformations, DTPs, process chains, queries, etc.) and SAP data extraction (standard/custom extractors, delta handling).
- Proven ability to reverse-engineer and document complex, poorly documented legacy landscapes.
- Clear communication of technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Exposure to SAP Datasphere, HANA-native concepts, or modern cloud data platforms.
- SQL/HANA modelling and finance reporting domain knowledge.
- German is a plus.
Erfahrung
- Extensive professional experience (10+ years) in SAP BW, BW/4HANA, enterprise data warehousing, and SAP- and Azure-based data integration.
- Experience with Data Warehousing, Data Management, Data Reporting, Data Integration and Data Analytics.
- Experience in financial services/asset management.
